Of the 32 miniature horses we own, at least 18 of them came from Lane Kobeck's breeding program. Three of the four stallions we own bear the Kobeck name. As we replace older mares & stallions, all of our breeding stock & show horses will have the Kobeck influence eventually. We have bought so many horses from them that we often joke that Rafter M Miniature Horses should be called Kobeck Miniature Horses South.
I have said on many occasions, it has been a great pleasure to know Lane, Diane and the rest of their family. My wife & I met them in October of 2001 at one of their semi-annual sales in Summertown, TN. We became fast friends immediately and have visited often over the past five years.
I have spent many hours visiting with Lane either over the telephone or in person, talking about the endless horses that carry the Kobeck (or L&D) name. At the time he & I talked in the beginning of our frienship, I did not realize the influence he had in developing horses that are now legends in both the AMHA & AMHR. Even now, with the advent of the internet, I am learning how influential this quiet, unassuming man is. Some people have to tell you how important they are; Lane just lets you figure it out yourself.
I personally believe that within a few years (if they haven't already), knowledgable miniature horse breeders will add Lane Kobeck to the list of most influential miniature horse breeders. Kobeck horses should be rated with the other famous bloodlines, such as Dell Tera, Bond and Komoko. Without these foundation breeders, we would not have the modern miniature horses of today. |
